Philomath means "Lover of Learning!" Since I was a child, I have taken this to heart and I am constantly learning and gaining valuable knowledge about my chosen field in Mass Communications. I have been a single MOM most of my adult life, so let's just share I have a work ethic that was instilled by watching Dad get up day after day to go file saw for the local saw mills six days at week. Mom kept the books and bought and sold antiques, so our family worked hard. I am what I call a late bloomer. I did go to college right out of high school, but had my education interrupted by marriage and a baby. It took me about 15 years to get back to school, but once I did I got a BA and MA in Mass Comm. I've spent years driving up and down the freeway from Englewood to Tampa, St. Pete and Bradenton to teach classes at USF and SCF (formerly MMC). So of course, I am an excellent driver with all that experience. My claim is fame is that when I was going to school I logged 63, 573 miles on my little Toyota Tacoma pickup in ONE YEAR! I am very proud of my daughter Kristina who is at dissertation at U of Minnesota and my two sons who have graduated from high school recently and headed to college and business adventures. Some of the most fun I have had lately is the creation of You Know You Are From Philomath, Oregon, if...it is wonderful to see so many people taking walks down memory lane. And, when I say MEMORY, I think I have discovered the way to deter memory loss. Create a Facebook page and starting looking back at your life...all kinds of ideas, thoughts, images and names of people from the past pop up and you can clearly see them in your mind. Cool. My education and work experience in the newspaper industry, public relations field, video production and teaching have led me on my current path.
