Biography Jean-Charles de Castelbajac French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is an emblematic French designer both in his designs and his polymorphous creations. His inspiration comes from myriad sources in his bright, sparkling, playful universe and he has revolutionised the world of art and fashion through his creations and his influences from the world of pop and rock. Garments made from recycled fabrics, warm and snug coats, ponchos built for two, graffiti dresses, cartoon pullovers. His designs stem from a unique new universe. A multi-talented artiste, whose first love is still fashion, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac was soon picked up by the press with his first cover of ELLE magazine and leading article of WWD which described him as a « Courrèges of the 1970s ». Within the next decade, he had collaborated with Loulou Picasso, Ben, Gérard Garouste, Hervé Di Rosa and his close influences included Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The pope Jean-Paul II told him in 1997: « You have used colour like the adhesive of faith » when he was selected as the official designer for the 1997 Catholic celebration World Youth Days, held in Paris, for which he created the Pope's vestments and apparel for the 5,000 young people at the event. Many young artistes, largely from the world of music, voiced their appreciation of the talented designer: Madonna, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Beth Ditto... Even the world of hip-hop recognised him as a creator of the young generation, christening him JC/DC. During the years 2000 all of his collections were crowned with success. It was then that Jean-Charles de Castelbajac launched his inspired brainwave, inventing the concept of « Lowcost Luxury » - an exceptional design at a price accessible to all, thus targeting a large, discerning, target audience. From this was born his « second line », JC/DC, his alias. «Twingo 55 FBG» by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Playfully imaginative but always elegant, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac casts the eye of a « Republican artist » on New Twingo inventing for it a Presidential destiny... whereby Twingo, that most democratic of cars, assumes the mantle of the Republic... The roll-call (the electoral roll of course) includes period furniture, candelabras and polished parquet flooring. A nod to the sumptuous luxury of the Elysées, complemented by the matt black bodyshell. Very rock 'n roll. « Our generation demands a new low-cost luxury. We have to reconcile creativity and democracy. » « It should be a cast-iron rule for all candidates in the Presidential elections that they have to travel in a Presidential Twingo. » Quelle: Media Renault
