Roger McGuinn solo performance of the Byrds hit "Turn Turn Turn". While this is from his instructional video, this video was on his web site for downloading for several months. Try www.homespuntapes.com to order Roger's instructional DVD and see in detail the techniques used in Turn, Turn,Turn and other Byrds classics. Roger's DVD is also available on Amazon.com Note to Roger McGuinn's fans: YouTube sent me a note explaining that this video may be infringing copyright but no action was required on my part (they have not requested that I remove this video). Let me make my views clear: I posted this video to increase interest in Roger and possibly increase sales of his instructional DVD for which I provide a link. Lately there has been a rash of YouTube take-downs of cover performances by amateur musicians, usually initiated by complaints of music publishing companies. It strikes me as foolish for music publishing companies to force YouTube to remove cover performances of popular songs (the Eagles have been especially heartless about this). These amateur cover performances are actually forms of flattery to the songwriter and the performer; they make not one red cent for the teenager that creates the cover, but they increase interest and buzz for the original song and its creators. Normally I'd ascribe this heartlessness to greed, but squashing interest in music is going to affect these artists who foster the take-downs in a very negative way. Our copyright and patent system is being abused lately and it only stifles innovation. Cheers, Jim Lynch

Jan 31, 2012 - Does the fact that it has three pick-ups not make it a 370 instead of a 360 (which only has two)?

Feb 17, 2012 - @GRMLASGS ~ I've never heard of a 370-6 or 370-12 but I guess you've got a valid question. Anyone out there have a comment?
MrRonnieG Says:
Feb 17, 2012 - @lynchzilla ~ If that's the case, why didn't other groups of that time period use the same recording technique? I do agree with you that the Byrds studio recordings were always better than their live performances but, then, I can't think another group who's live performances DID sound better than their studio recordings.

Feb 22, 2012 - I beg to differ, Fleetwood Mac and Jefferson Starship are groups that come to mind.
MrRonnieG Says:
Feb 22, 2012 - @ozzymandias85 ~ The quality of a live performance is subjective and in the ears of the beholder. I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert 3 different times beginning with their Summer 1976 performance at the San Diego Sports' Arena and do not agree. Never saw the Airplane (a.k.a. Starship) live but have heard recordings of live shows and felt their studio work was better. I should have qualified my comments with the initialism, "IMHO."

Mar 17, 2012 - @MrRonnieG; I have the whole DVD from which this is taken and at the beginning I seem to recall he actually says ' this is a Rickenbacker 370'. I have a 12 string 360 - 2 pick ups

Mar 21, 2012 - @MrRonnieG There is one Band, really, Deep Purple, Made in Japan stomps anything Mark 2 ever did in a Studio. The Beatles were perfect live and in the studio, if only they had better equipment. The Who during their Prime, Nazareth and Mott the Hoople both never captured their raw live performances in the studio.

May 8, 2012 - When and where was this recorded? Possibly at Hyannis, Massachusetts, during a performance at a seafood festival as a tuneup before a big concert with Bob Dylan? Can't remember the year. If so, I saw this live, and still have the festival t-shirt he signed for me! Great performance to a small but extremely enthusiastic audience.

May 9, 2012 - This video was from the Homespun Tapes instructional video. It was also on Roger's web site for 6 months for open downloading (that's where I got it). I purchased the instructional video and it's really helpful to those who purchase a Rickenbacker 12-string guitar. It looks to me like it was produced in a studio; the give-away is the cameras pointed at his right-hand finger picking and his left hand forming the chords. You couldn't set up cameras like that in a concert environment.
dhh02192 Says:
May 10, 2012 - Thanks. I think I knew it wasn't from a show, but I'm having trouble figuring out when that concert I saw happened, so had to ask.
