Demi. Detention. A punishment? - not really. Most of the kids in detention play around and are always the oppisite of quiet. I met Joe in front of the classroom and pointed inside, "Here's detention." "After you madam," he said with a little smirk on his face. I giggled and walked inside, taking a desk in the back of the room. I checked my phone which had a new messge from my boyfriend, Sterling. I ignored it. The whole time in detention I worked on homework and I admit, I took some peaks at Joe. He was talking to people with ease. He made it seem like he's been part of this school for years. It was like he knew these people forever. I knew he'd fit right in. And soon I wouldn't exist. He'd forget about me, just like everybody seems to have. An hour later the detention supervisor came in and released us, after giving his "you can do better than this" lecture. I started to walk my usual route home. The weather had cleared up, bringing a beautiful yellow ball of fire to the sky. I admired it as I walked through the neighborhood, eager to get home. I was a house down from mine when I heard footsteps. I turned around, thinking it was just a women on a walk. But there stood Joe. "Are you following me?" I asked. He chuckled, "Actually, this is my house." He pointed to the big whtie hour, right next to mine. "Oh," I replied. Feeling just a bit stupid. He flashed a smile, "Do you live around here?" I pointed to my house, "I live there." "We're neighbors," he paused. "Ironic." We stood there in an awkward silence. He glanced at my house, then me, then his house. "I'll see you tomorrow, Demi." I nodded and waved, "See you later." I watched Joe walk along his driveway and into the garage. He put his backpack down and then walked inside. I sighed. I acted so dumb. Why couldn't I have said something? I could've invited him over but I was so tongue tied. I shook it off and then went inside where I was greeeted by my mother squealing. "Oh! Denise!" She shrieked, waddling towards me. "This is my daughter, Demetria. Demi! This is Denise. She is our new neighbor." Denise smiled at me and stretched out her hand, "Nice to meet you." I shook it. "I have a son that's your age," she commented. "His name is Joe." Joe. I smiled at his name. "Yes, I met him at school. He's in my History class." "Oh fabulous!" She laughed. My mom eyed Denise and then me, "Why don't you show Joe around town?" she asked. "What a wonderful idea!" exclaimed Denise. After much more squealing, I escaped - car keys in hand. I walked over to Joe's house and knocked gently. Clay answered the door, now wearing only his jeans. I glanced at his chest. It was perfectly toned. I wanted to run my hand over it - to see if it was real. I heard Joe chuckle which shook me out of my trance. "You okay there?" he asked. I nodded, trying not to look at his chest again. "I - um - your mom is at my house and I told her I would show you around town." He pursed his lips into a straight line. "Did she force you too? I don't want you to show me around town if you don't want to." "No!" I protested. "I offered." He smiled, "Well in that case, I'll get my shirt and we can be on our way. Would you like to come in?" I shook my head, "I'm okay. I'll actually be in my car waiting." He flashed a smile and then shut the door. I sprinted to my 2002 Toyato Tundra and got in. I pout my key in the ignition and the car roared to life.
